August 2008, BMW PRO-AM SHOE NIGHT

August 30 - Thank you SWITCH-A-ROOS! Consignment sale

Earlier this month the highly anticpated Switch-A-Roos consignment sale agreed to donate all their non-sold to be donated items to GCFPA after speaking with our President.  We've taken this opportunity to have a fundraiser and are hosting a consignment sale of our own for foster care families and friends.  All proceeds from our sale will benefit our Spirit Fund!  Thank you Switch-A-Roos for the Grand Opportunity!

July 31, Heart Gallery Photo Shoot

What a grand day for a photo shoot.  Foster Care children free for adoption in Greenville County and Region 1 met at the Greenville Zoo for a day of fun and photos.  Professional photographers volunteer their time and talents to provide the Heart Gallery with great pictures of our children needing a loving forever home.  Beth Humphries of GCFPA collected $100 in donations to help support lunch cost for the day and volunteered as well for this grand day.  Thank you Heart Gallery for all you do, Thank you to the social workers and adoptions workers that brought children to be photographed and thank you to all the volunteers and photographers that made the possible.  A child's life can be changed forever with one photo.

July 19, Infant and Toddler Food Event

It was a great day for foster care families across SC needing infant and toddler foods.  GCFPA working alongside IHGM provided over 1000 cases of infant/toddler foods for counties as far away as Calhoun and York!.  Thanks for coming everyone and we look forward to seeing everyone in September for the next event!

May 2008, Foster Care Awareness Month

May 30, 2008 GCFPA host an Appreciation BBQ

What a fun event this was!  Foster families and children came and enjoyed the park and a great meal provided by "???" of Simp.  We are very thankful for their support.  This event was just one small way to let our foster families know how much we appreciate them and all they do for Greenville's foster care children.  Greenville averages 400 children in foster care at any given time.  Foster Care Awareness Month is a time we all stop and remember each other, as foster parents, and the children we care for on a daily basis.

It was a grand day for our Infant/Toddler food program for foster care families.   GCFPA working alongside In His Grip Ministries, INC. of Greenville provided over 650 cases of infant and toddler foods to foster care families serving young children.

Beth Humphries, President of GCFPA and a foster parent, was asked to speak to Ms. Sarah Evanson's 7th grade classes at Sevier Middle School concerning foster care.  Her students have recently read a book in which the main character is a foster care child and they were interested to learn more.  GCFPA was happy to provide a speaker for this event during awareness month and look forward to future opportunities as well.

It was a grand day for our Infant/Toddler food program for foster care families.   GCFPA working alongside In His Grip Ministries, INC. of Greenville provided over 1000 cases of infant and toddler foods to foster care families serving young children. 

March 13, 2008

What a fabulous night we had at Shoe Carnival this time around! GCFPA bought over 130 pairs of shoes for Greenville County foster care children. We spent over $4500.00 putting new shoes on the feet of our children and we are so happy to have been able to provide this event for our foster families. This event was made possible through a generous Grant given to us by Bi-Lo Golf Charities in November 2007. THANK YOU BI-LO GOLF CHARITIES!!

February 2008, Greenville County Foster Parent Association chosen to receive funds by BMW PRO-AM Golf Charity

GCFPA is very excited to be one of the few chosen charities this year provided the opportuniry to sell patron credentials for the BMW Pro-Am.  Patron Credentials for the tournament are $25 this year and the proceeds from our tickets sells go directly to us - 100%.  This celebrity filled tournament takes place in MAY which is FOSTER CARE AWARENESS MONTH.  We look forward to volunteering at the tournament and selling the patron tickets.  This is a grand opportunity for us and for the children in Greenville's foster care system.  Thank you BMW Pro-AM.  To purchase tickets please email beth@gcfpa.org.   To volunteer for us at the tournament go to their website www.bmwcharitygolf.com and click on the VOLUNTEERS button.  Be sure to let them know you want to volunteer for GCFPA.

This donation is the evidence of all our volunteers that helped to make the Fall for Greenville event a success.  These monies will be added to our Spirit Fund to provide resources to foster care children in Greenville County in the coming year.  Thank you to all our volunteers!!!  we could not have done it without you.

It was another great day for foster families needing infant and toddler food.  GCFPA working alongside IHGM provided over 400 cases of infant/toddler foods for Greenville County foster families.  Thanks for coming and we look forward to seeing everyone next month!

November 15: GCFPA host Fall Fellowship for foster care families at Monkey Joe's!

The owner's of Monkey Joe's donated the use of their establishment for our fellowship.  We provided pizza and drinks to all the families and children for this fun filled night. It was a huge success.  Over 70 parents and 90 children participated in the fellowship.  Thank you Monkey Joe's for this experience!  The children had a FABULOUS time and parents had a great chance to fellowship with other foster parents.
 

November 14: GCFPA meets with Whole Foods, Inc. and Bair Foundation to plan Christmas Sponsorship for 37 foster care children.

Whole Foods will host the Heart Gallery Photos this month as November is Adoption Awareness Month.  We are delighted that they also wish to sponsor 37 Greenville foster care children served by Bair Foundation foster families this year as a store project.  Thank you Whole Foods for your generosity!

November 5: GCFPA invited to attend Press Conference for the BI-LO Golf Classic Charities Grant

Beth Humphries, our V.P. and Treasurer attended the press conference for GCFPA.  BI-LO Golf Classic Charities generous donation of $5,000 will aid GCFPA and it's programs in the coming year.  This money will be applied to our Spirit Fund and will be provided directly to activities for foster care children to help build their self-esteem.  Thank You BI-LO Golf Classic Charities for your donation!

Beth Humphries, our V.P. and Treasurer spoke at the Provisional Meeting for new JLG members.  She shared the mission of GCFPA and the projects we are currently providing for foster care children and their families.  The JLG volunteers were receptive to our mission and many contacts were made for future collaboration with our ongoing and new projects.

October 12: Infant/Toddler Food Giveaway

It was another great day for foster families needing infant and toddler food.  GCFPA working alongside IHGM provided nearly 300 cases of infant/toddler foods for Greenville County foster families as well as Abbeville County Foster Parent Association.  Thanks for coming Abbeville and we look forward to seeing everyone next month!
 

October 4: 36 Region I children sponsored by GCFPA 

GCFPA is proud to be able to sponsor the framing of pictures for the Heart Gallery for all foster care children FREE for adoption in Region I.  Please visit www.scheartgallery.org to learn more about this great organization and their tremendous efforts to see permanency obtained for foster care children that are FREE and clear and ready to be adopted.  Their website offers much information and a photo gallery of these children as well.

September 2007, Infant/Toddler Food for SC FPA's

September 29: More Infant/Toddler food for foster care children across South Carolina.

Beth Humphries of GCFPA and Doug Humphries of IHGM attended a meeting of the SCFPA's on Saturday and took over 700 cases of infant/toddler food to the meeting for other FPA's to pick-up and distribute to their foster care families.  It was a huge success and families were so thankful for this resource.  Thank you to In His Grip Ministries, Inc. for providing this resource to foster care children in South Carolina.
 

September 14

Greenville County FPA is blessed with resources and this month we are sharing our resource of the Infant/Toddler Food Program with all the FPA's in South Carolina.  Several SC counties came to the warehouse this month including Anderson, Spartanburg, Orangeburg, Calhoun, Darlington, Horry, Chesterfield, Tri-County, Seneca, Dillon and Marion counties to take advantage of the opportunity for Gerber food for their foster care children for a handling fee of only $1.00 per case.  GCFPA is so pleased to be able to offer this to our fellow foster parent associations in South Carolina this month.  The food was provided through a collaborative effort with In His Grip Ministries, INC. www.inhisgripministries.com of Greenville.  This is the first time we have offered this program to other FPA's in our state and hope to be able to do so again.  GCFPA was able to provide over 3,000 cases of infant/toddler foods to Foster Families and area organizations that serve at risk children and the event was a huge success.  Trucks and cars filled the parking lot all day long.  Thank you IHGM for your efforts and generosity.  We look forward to this joint effort again in the future.

FREE Infant and Toddler foods to upstate Foster Families.  The food was donated to foster families through In His Grip Ministries, INC. www.inhisgripministries.com of Greenville.  This is the second time we have offered such an event and it was a huge success.  GCFPA was able to give away over 300 cases of infant/toddler foods to Foster Families and area organizations that serve at risk children.  Thank you IHGM for your efforts and generosity.  We look forward to this joint effort again in the future.

August 2 and 23, 2007

What a fabulous night we had at Shoe Carnival this time around! GCFPA bought 189 pairs of shoes for Greenville County foster care children. We spent over $6000.00 putting new shoes on the feet of foster care children in foster homes and group homes.  We are so happy to have been able to provide this event for our foster families. This event was made possible through a generous donation from School Spot on Woodruff Road and from individual donors as well.  THANK YOU School Spot and all our local Shoe Drive Donors of this event, without you this event would not have been possible!! GCFPA also provided more Lifebooks to foster care children at this event and gave away more Gerber food to our families as well.

GCFPA is chosen by Furman University as a Paladin Teammate Organization.  Furman is partnering with us to give foster care children the opportunity to enjoy Furman Paladin Sports Games.  We are so excited about this great opportunity.  GO PALADINS!!!

GCFPA provides our second Lifebook Workshop to the foster teens at Pendleton Place Group Home in Greenville, SC.  We enjoyed lunch together after our workshop and all the girls look forward to our next Lifebook Workshop.  Many of the girls had continued to work on their Lifebooks throughout the month.  They were excited to show us their progress.  Thank you Junior League of Greenville for supporting this project for our foster care children!

GCFPA provides our second Lifebook Workshop to the foster teens at Smith House Group Home in Greenville, SC.  We enjoyed lunch together after our workshop and all the girls look forward to our next Lifebook Workshop.  Many of the girls had continued to work on their Lifebooks throughout the month.  They were excited to show us their progress.  Thanks to Mountainview UMC, GCFPA was able to leave a box of Scrapbook Supplies for the girls at Smith House to use as they work on their Lifebooks.  Thank you Junior League of Greenville for supporting this project for our foster care children!

The VBS at Mountainview United Methodist Church collected and donated Scrapbook supplies for our Lifebook Project.  They collected paper, scissors, stickers, disposable cameras and all sorts of supplies.  What a tremendous effort from the VBS children and their families.  Thank you Mountainview United Methodist Church for caring about our foster care children and our tremendous Lifebook Project.

June 2007, JLG Lifebook Project Kick-Off

GCFPA provides tickets to Stuart Little, a Little Children's Theatre production to several foster families and their foster care children.  The tickets were donated to us by a local church Bible Study Class and we are so thankful for the opportunity to give our children this grand experience.  The families had a tremendous time.  Thank you so much to our sponsors.

Our First Annual "Crop for the Kids" Fundraiser EventRegistration form provided here.  Event will take place at Simpsonville First Baptist Church, 106 Church Street in Simpsonville, SC 29680.    Time is 10:00 am - 8:00 pm.  $20 Donation registers one person.  We will have door prizes, a silent auction, and a drawing for a Creative Memories prize package worth over $300.  To be eligible for the drawing just bring a new disposable camera and donate it to the Greenville County Foster Parent Association to be given to local foster care children so they too can create happy memories of their own. UPDATE:  The fundraiser was a success.  GCFPA raised $3408 through this event for our Spirit Fund.

April 2007, Child Abuse Awareness Month

April 20, 2007
Beth Humphries, our Vice President/Treasurer, attended the Annual Conference for the Foster Care Review Board.  Beth was a speaker at the conference and shared with the attendees the powerful combination of FCRB members and their local FPA's.  She encouraged each of them to work along side their FPA's as Greenville's FCRB's do in helping to raise funds for our children.  "We all have our own circle of influence,"  she said and asked each of them to share their passion for foster care children with their influences to help us all make a bigger difference for our children.  The confernce was a success!  GCFPA has received donations from attendees that heard Beth speak.  Thank you to all of Greenville's FCRB boards for your continued partnership with GCFPA.

January 2007, Greenville County Foster Parent Association awarded Grant by Junior League Of Greenville

We here at GCFPA are so pleased to announce a new project underway through the provision of a $15,870 grant from Junior League Of Greenville. We will be implementing our new Lifebook Project in the coming months. This grant will allow us to purchase 400 Lifebooks for foster care children and all the materials the children will need to work on their Lifebooks as well. We are so excited about this new project and look forward to providing Lifebook workshops to foster families in our county.
