We began "Shoe Night" in 2004. We now have two "Shoe Night" events per year where
all Greenville county Foster Parents can bring their foster children to select
a pair of shoes of their choosing. This is especially important to our teens because
it allows them to feel equal to their peers on some level, giving them the opportunity
to express their individuality. The smiles on the faces of our children when they
walk out of the store with a new pair of shoes are priceless. In 2007, we also
opened the invitation to all foster care children in our area group homes and provided
nearly 500 pair of shoes for foster care children at two Shoe Night events for
a cost of $14,153.93.
Due to the increased number of children entering foster care, GCFPA is now actively
seeking sponsorship for our "Shoe Night" events. |
